SANTA BARBARA POLO & RACQUET CLUB PHILOSOPHY

Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club is one of the oldest clubs in the United States, celebrating its 110 year since its founding, and is the largest and most active polo club on the west coast. Our members and players are polo enthusiasts, whether they are beginners, advanced players or simply enjoy watching the matches. Our members and players are part of a community that enjoy the many outdoor venues that the central coast of California has to offer, whether it is at the polo fields, hiking nearby mountain trails or surfing or paddle boarding on beautiful beaches within a quarter mile.

Santa Barbara Polo Club’s History Overview:

1894

SB POLO

Polo game played in Santa Barbara at the Agricultural Park as an Exhibition.

1902

SB POLO

Santa Barbara Polo Club boasted a 40 man roster.

1911

SB POLO

Santa Barbara Polo Club was admitted to the United States Polo Association (USPA).

1916

SB POLO

Fire tore through Carpinteria, the future site of the Santa Barbara Polo Club (SBPC)

1923

SB POLO

Major Max Fleischmann, "the yeast king", purchased the current site from J.D. Nidever.

1929

SB POLO

Fleischmann acquired adjoining forty acre parcel to the SBPC. Began placing "stollons" of Bermuda grass

There is something for everyone at Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club. Competition is at all levels, from beginners in an arena to pro pool, and low, medium and high goal polo. The Club and its members strive to produce the highest quality product with outstanding fields and facilities, and professional umpiring to ensure equal treatment for all participants. While the competition at the medium and high goal levels is very intense, we strive for a fair and safe outcome for every match and every tournament.
